Smokey Bones To Open Three New Restaurants in 2015

Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill is igniting company growth with a plan for new restaurants in several U.S. markets. Three new restaurants are set to open in 2015—the first in Peabody, MA on March 9, the second in Mt. Prospect, Ill. (Chicago) in late July, and a third location along the East Coast with a date not yet finalized—bringing the brand’s portfolio of locations to 68 across the United States.

Smokey Bones, formally of Darden Restaurants, Inc., was acquired by Sun Capital Partners, Inc. in 2007 and has been enjoying steady growth since. In early 2012, the brand hired Chris Artinian, a long-standing restaurant industry executive, to refresh the Smokey Bones brand as its President & CEO.

In recent years under Artinian’s direction, Smokey Bones has established itself as the choice location for food, drinks, and fun—providing a bold and entertaining atmosphere that allows them to rise above the casual dining clutter. Additionally, they’ve invested heavily in improving, refining, and refreshing their food and drink options, led by Jason Gronlund, VP of Culinary, and Mike Herchuck, Manager of Beverage.

“Our beverage offerings set us apart from the typical casual dining establishment,” said Herchuck. “We have over 40 beers, including 20 American craft brews—seven of which are rated 90+ from Beer Advocate. We also have over 40 variations of spirits that are available in every Smokey Bones restaurant, and our cocktail menu is constantly evolving with changing beverage trends. There’s always something new and delicious to try, and a talented bartender to mix, muddle, shake, or pour it for our customers.”

Known for its fire grill and in-house smoker, the traditionally-BBQ brand is evolving their menu as well.

“We are all about making delicious food that everyone can enjoy—come as you are. In 2015, we are launching many new menu items created for our customers and perfected to meet our rigid Smokey Bones’ standards,” said Gronlund.

The new locations opening in 2015 will be an entirely new design for the casual dining restaurant, featuring modernized interior elements and equipped for family meals, drinks with friends, or watching a sports game at the bar.

“As a brand, we’re always striving to meet the needs of our loyal customers. This redesign is a result of that effort. Smokey Bones fans are looking for a fresh, fun environment that reflects our brand personality, and that’s exactly what we’re giving them in 2015,” said Artinian. “We aren’t completely departing from our original restaurant design because it’s still a part of who we are. We’re simply evolving the Smokey Bones story.”
